Shawn and Elizabeth grew up in the Mid-Atlantic. After attending graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania, they met while working at a consulting firm in Philadelphia—Shawn in planning; Elizabeth in historic preservation. They married and settled in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philly, where their daughter Vivian was born. When Elizabeth was offered a job in the region, they began looking for a new home. Although they considered Easthampton and Northampton, they ultimately focused on Springfield, where they could be a one-car family because of the city’s walkability and access to public transportation. They rented a house in the Forest Park neighborhood before purchasing their home in the historic district, where son Lucas was born. They appreciate that their yard is enough for the kids without being a maintenance burden and the convenience of a bus stop, school, grocery store, park, and library blocks away. They both love shocking their Philly friends with how much house they got for the money in Springfield.
