Dr. Karin Johnson moved to Springfield in 2008 to work in
the neurology and sleep medicine department at Baystate Medical Center. She
purchased a Victorian row house in the downtown neighborhood, and loves her new
community. She grew up in a similar neighborhood in Boston and wanted to find
that same sense of community when she came to this city.
Karin looked at places in Longmeadow and Northampton, but
chose Springfield because she preferred the more diverse, urban community, and
because she could get a lot more house for her money. Some of her favorite
things about living in Springfield are the Mattoon Street Arts Festival, the
thriving downtown restaurant scene (Onyx and 350 Grill are her current
favorites), and the live music available indoors and out all year long. She
also enjoyed the 2008 Shakespeare in the Park performance.
Karin’s home is convenient to her job, her social life, and
to get to the highway for her Boston friends to visit her. She says she’s met
more neighbors in the first few months of living in Springfield than she did
when she lived in East Providence for four years. Karin tells prospective
homebuyers that Springfield has a lot to offer; her friends who visit agree.
